The application form for the US university will specify whether you need to convert your GPA to 4-point or 5-point scale.
To convert a 10-point GPA to 4-point GPA, just use the following formula
GPA in 4-point scale = (GPAIn10Points-2)/2
Table for verification :
10-Point GPA | 4-Point GPA |
10 | 4 |
8 | 3 |
6 | 2 |
4 | 1 |
Example: If you have scored 8.4 on a 10-point GPA scale, it converts to (8.4-2)/2=3.2 on a 4-point GPA scale.
Foot Note:

I am a B.Tech student of SRM University Chennai pursing Mechanical. What should be my minimum GPA (in 10 point scale) to become eligible for all good U.S universities?
ReplyDeleteMost universities ask for a minimum of 3.0/4.0 while others ask for 2.75. They don't use a 10 point scale and there are many ways to convert so there's no point in showing an inaccurate GPA. Just display your scores in the scale your university calculates it in. US universities are aware of the use of different scales so don't worry too much about it because even if you have a 9 GPA, it doesn't matter if the rest of your application like GRE/TOEFL scores or SOP are bad.
